My images depict ambiguous, quiet moments. The subject matter is drawn from family, rural environments and domestic scenes. Forming a non-narrative diary, these photographs try to hold fast the ephemeral - vacillating between isolation of the individual and connection with one’s environment.
Growing up the only adopted child in a large family solidified a feeling of being set apart. My solitary nature was strengthened by being raised in a rural environment. Aloneness is represented by single figures juxtaposed with dark shadows, areas of blur, and lens distortion. Intermixed are images of empty spaces, both interior and exterior. My definition of landscape expands to include domestic scenes to create a complex impression of the desire to connect the organic and define a self-created space. This thematic thread explores a sense of autonomy within a complex existence.
